About us

Martyn f Chillmaid Photographers specialises in providing cultural, scientific, historic and wildlife photography and video for the educational market. We are a family business with over 30 years of experience in creating engaging imagery for books, magazines, web and digital formats.

An early adopter of both computers and digital photography, we use the latest digital hard and software to create images for the 21st century student.

With the advent of tablets, ebooks and other electronic media it is essential that the image tells a story that can fill a screen. Taking students to places they cannot explore in the classroom, opening their minds to new ways of seeing, finding visual similies to explain difficult concepts.

Science in all its guises is our primary area of expertise and Martyn’s images have been represented by Science Photo Library since 1997. The galleries on this site are not a 'best of', but an intoduction to our library and to prove our capability to provide the right image for your brief.

Martyn Chillmaid

Martyn studied Commercial Photography at Medway College of Design, now the University for the Creative Arts.

Shortly after graduating he set off to photograph two geography books in France and Spain, followed by a year-long project for Readers Digest that spanned the length and breadth of the UK.

Martyn and Colette then moved to Iceland and founded an audio-visual company called Skyggna.

After returning to the UK he became more involved in educational photography. More recently, Martyn began producing video content for digital publications.
