Flowering Hawthorn - Crataegus monogyna - before a storm.

Description

Also known as the May, this small tree is a major component of British hedgerows. Flowers appear between May and June, after the leaves. The branches and twigs are covered in spines which help to make it a stock proof hedging plant which is often being replaced with barbed wire and electric fencing.
