Roof timbers of the Yarn Market in Dunster, Somerset

Description

The Yarn Market, a fine 17th century timber-framed octagonal market hall, is a monument to Dunster's once-flourishing cloth trade. Built in 1609 and repaired in 1647, it sits in the middle of the high street. It is now managed by the National Trust.

This is part of a collection of photographs taken in 1974 for a Readers Digest book. Some are of objects and buildings that have changed or are now no longer in the same location. Some are taken in locations that have changed considerably over the past nearly 50 years.
