Buckfast Abbey, dalle de verre stained glass window of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in 1974.

Description

Buckfast Abbey, dalle de verre stained glass window of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in 1974.

The modern abbey was established in 1906 and a monk, Dom Charles Norris, trained in the Royal College of Art, created the window in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in 1968. It is created using a fairly modern French technique called dalle de verre - small slabs of coloured glass are bound in matrix of epoxy resin. The roughly cut chips refract and reflect. This is part of a collection of photographs taken in 1974 for a Readers Digest book. Some are of objects and buildings that have changed or are now no longer in the same location. Some are taken in locations that have changed considerably over the past nearly 50 years.
