Harvested Pinot Gris grapes in plastic bins

Harvested grapes in plastic bins go straight to the wine producer. This Alsace white wine grape, Pinot Gris, varies considerably in colour.

Although usually greyish -blue the grapes vary in colour and so does the wine. The berries are usually covered in a bloom that lightens the colour. These grapes were harvested above the village of Hunawihr in Alsace. Alsace has a large production of wine, most of which are white and several are unique to the area. The grapes were hand cut into baskets and then transferred to plastic crates.
